Work, by Design.
Custom operations software for Australian and New Zealand manufacturers and wholesalers. Built around how your business actually runs, not how a software company thinks it should.
Free custom demo of your business, built in 48 hours.
You've been told this costs $150,000 and takes a year.
That was true. For about twenty years, it was completely true.
A custom system meant a team of developers hand-writing every screen, every form, every report, for months. You weren't paying for software. You were paying for hours. Hundreds of them.
So you did the sensible thing. You bought something off the shelf and bent the business to fit it. You paid per user, per month, forever, for a system designed around somebody else's business.
That trade made sense when the alternative was $150,000.
It doesn't anymore.
Software used to be expensive because it was slow to build. It isn't slow to build anymore.
Three things, and none of them are magic.
The repetitive work of building software, the database layer, the forms, the screens, the reports, is now generated and reviewed rather than typed from scratch. What took a developer a week takes an afternoon.
The thinking about what to build takes exactly as long as it always did. The typing doesn't.
Running a business system used to mean a server to buy, patch, back up and worry about. Your system now runs on Cloudflare's network, the same infrastructure that carries a fifth of the internet.
There is no server. There is nothing to patch.
It's no longer "can we build this." It's "do we understand this business well enough to build the right thing."
That's where our time goes now, and it's the part that always mattered most.
The result: what cost $150,000 and took a year now costs under $35,000 and takes 30 to 60 days.
Most manufacturers hit the wall in the same three places.

01
Stock you can't trust The number on the screen and the number on the shelf stopped agreeing months ago. Committed stock isn't visible, so the same part gets promised twice. Money sits in the wrong SKUs.
-
02
A bill of materials that lives in someone's head Sub-assemblies tracked in a spreadsheet. Revisions that don't reach the floor. New staff take six months to become useful because the process was never written down anywhere.
-
03
Reporting that means exporting to Excel You pull the data out, rebuild the dashboard by hand, and by the time it's finished it's a week old. Every month. Forever.
If you recognised all three, you're the business we build for.
One system. Everything in it.
Not modules you switch on. Modules built for how you already work.
-
Inventory
Live stock, multi-location, committed versus available.
-
Bills of materials
Multi-level, made and bought, where-used, revisions.
-
Production
Work orders from the BOM, scheduling, floor tracking.
-
Purchasing
Forecast-driven, supplier lead times, receipting.
-
Sales and CRM
Pipeline, quoting, order entry, customer history.
-
Suppliers
Performance, pricing, lead times, purchase history.
-
Customer portal
Customers order, track, request quotes, pay, self-serve.
-
Reporting
Live dashboards. No exports, no Power BI rebuild.
-
Compliance
Certificates, traceability, audit evidence, document control.
-
Job costing
Real margin per job, per customer, per product.
And your accounting stays where it is.
Xero or MYOB keeps doing what it's good at, the books and the reconciliation. We push invoices and payments across so your accountant's world doesn't change.
Everything else, purchase orders, work orders, inventory, production, quoting, the customer portal, lives in one system that belongs to you.
We build across a range of industries. We specialise in manufacturing.
Both halves of that matter, and they do different jobs.
The range is why we recognise the problem. A practice, a distributor and a fabrication shop all end up in the same place: a stack of systems that were never designed together, and a person whose actual job is managing the joins. We have built platforms for businesses well outside a factory, and the pattern barely changes.
The specialisation is why the builds are fast. Australian and New Zealand manufacturing and wholesale distribution is where we have gone deepest, and it is the reason we can put 30 to 60 days on a proposal instead of six months.
We already know what a multi-level bill of materials does to your purchasing. We know that a sub-assembly built in-house and one sent to an external machinist need to behave differently. We know committed stock is the number that actually matters, and that most systems hide it. We know your reorder points are wrong because they were set three years ago and nobody's touched them since.
We're not learning your industry on your budget. If you make things, this is the industry we know best. See an example of a build and judge the work for yourself.

What we hear in almost every first call
-
Reporting means exporting to Excel and rebuilding the dashboard in Power BI.
-
We've got eight licences and some days that's not enough.
-
It's a good system. It's just clunky, and it doesn't do what we actually need.
-
We were quoted $50,000 and six months, so we didn't do it.
Every one of these is from a real conversation with an Australian manufacturer this year.
Four steps to live.

Go-live
Plus 30 days of support includedWe're on the tools for go-live. Then 30 days of hands-on support at no cost.
Edits, fixes, changes, calls, whatever it takes to make it work in real use.
Why 30 to 60 days, and what decides it
Two things set the date, and we'll be straight with you about both before you sign.
The first is the shape of your build. A single-site operation with a clean product list lands near 30 days. Multi-site, multi-level bills of materials, production scheduling and a customer portal sits closer to 60.
The second is us and you, together. We only take on what we can build properly, so the date depends on our capacity at the time, and we'll tell you what it is rather than promise a slot we can't hold. It also depends on how quickly information comes back from your side. Discovery answers, data exports, the rules nobody wrote down, feedback on what we've shown you. When that flows, we move.
We don't pad timelines and we don't let them drift. We move promptly and we get it right. If something is going to move, you hear it from us first, not on the deadline.
The part nobody else tells you upfront.
- You own it
- On final payment the code, the database and the system are yours to own, change, copy and take anywhere, including to another developer. We keep ownership of our own general purpose tooling that pre-dates your project, and you get a perpetual, royalty free, transferable licence to it. Nothing we keep can stop your system running or stop you leaving.
- Where it lives
- Your system runs on Cloudflare, on Australian infrastructure, wherever you are. Your source code sits in your own GitHub repository. You have access to both. We manage it day to day so you don't have to think about it.
- Where your data lives, stated precisely
- An Australian team, not a ticket queue
- When something goes wrong, an Australian answers, and in almost every case it's the person who built your system. Australian business hours, which is the same working day on both sides of the Tasman. No outsourced support desk. No reseller in the middle. No implementation partner you've never met.
- A help desk inside your system
- Raise an issue from within the app, priority-ranked, straight to the people who built it. Problems get fixed promptly, not scheduled into next quarter.
- A change portal, and a 48-hour turnaround
- Want a field moved, a column added, a report changed, a screen laid out differently? Request it from inside your system. Small development is turned around within 48 hours.
- Anything bigger, a new module or a genuine addition to the system, gets scoped properly with your account manager first, so you know what it involves before anything starts.
- An account manager who knows your business
- Every month, in person where we can and on video where we can't. Not to upsell you. To find out what's changed in the business and what needs building next. The system keeps up with you instead of falling behind.
| Item | The old way | With Praxa |
|---|---|---|
| Build a custom system | $150,000+ | Under $35,000 |
| Time to live | 6 to 12 months | 30 to 60 days |
| Who owns it at the end | Usually not you | You do |
| Per-user fees | Forever, as you grow | None, at any headcount |
| Keeping it running | A developer on staff, or a consultancy on retainer | An Australian team that already built it |
| Small change | Scoped, quoted, scheduled. Weeks. | Requested in the app. 48 hours. |
| New module | A project, a proposal, a fight about price | Scoped with your account manager |
| Support | A ticket, a queue, an offshore team | A help desk inside your system |
You stop renting software that half fits, and start owning software that does.
Somebody has already done this.
A CNC shop making billet performance parts, growing faster than the systems holding it together. The bills of materials, the part numbers and the reorder points lived in one person's head, so nobody could quote, order or be hired without him.
Off-the-shelf wanted fifty to sixty thousand to implement, plus a subscription every year after. They were live on real jobs at the end of week two.
- 2 weeks
- first call to running on real jobs
- $50–60k
- what off-the-shelf quoted to implement
- Overnight
- a case lodged at 8.30pm, fixed by six
Under $35,000. One-off. Fixed before we start.
No per-user fees, at five staff or eighty.
Fixed means fixed. The price is set after discovery, before any work begins, and it does not move because the build turned out harder than we judged. That's our risk, not yours.
The only thing that changes the number is you asking for something outside the agreed scope, and that gets quoted and agreed in writing before anyone starts work on it.
Paid in stages, tied to stages delivered. You're never paying ahead of the work.
Ongoing hosting and support are set out in your proposal and cost a fraction of what a per-user subscription does at your headcount.
Every figure on this site is in Australian dollars, including for New Zealand clients.
The meaning of Praxa
Aristotle described three human activities. Theoria, thinking. Poiesis, making. And praxis, doing. The work of getting things ordered correctly in the real world.
We're not the thinking layer. We're not the making layer.
We're the doing layer. The software that gets the work done.
Australian owned. On the ground.
Built by operators who've watched good businesses get stuck on bad systems. When something goes wrong, an Australian answers the phone, and that person built the system. No outsourcing. No reseller margins. No implementation partners.
